We’ve just held our first week-long boot camp to demonstrate the research methods used by ACE. 16 attendees (mostly post-grads and post-docs) came to Arizona State University from across Europe and the US. Mornings were spent in tutorials by members of ACE and the afternoons were filled with hands-on activities.
There were many highlights, from learning how to read a pathology slide to using new phylogenetic methods to understand cancer evolution. New friendships were made and the students had a chance to learn from each other and get to know cancer researchers from very different scientific disciplines.
Friday morning was spent with a poster competition and 3-minute research talks by the students. They did an amazing job talking about their work in a way suitable for a non-specialist audience. Thank you to all the students and to the tutors who were so generous with their time!
