As part of our Organismal Evolution and Cancer Defenses project led by Amy Boddy, we are compiling a data base of zoo animals and their susceptibility to cancer. Hundreds of zoos around the world are generously sharing their records with us that go back decades. This unique resource will be available to cancer researchers around the world searching for clues to find new mechanisms for preventing cancer or keeping it under control.
Taronga Zoo in Sydney was the latest zoo to sign on to the project – many thanks to the administration and all the fantastic veterinary staff who met with Valerie Harris and Pauline Davies in the summer. Their marsupial records will be especially valuable to our database!
