Sculpture explores the nature of cancer
ASU mixed media ceramics professor Susan Beiner is in residence in the Aktipis and Maley labs, as well as the Arizona Cancer Evolution Center. She is exploring the nature of cancer and developing plans for a ceramics piece that will illustrate the invasive and metastatic nature of cancer through the 3-dimensional affordances of sculpture. When complete, this sculpture will be installed in the ASU Memorial Union.
We are planning on installing small vitrine sized ceramics pieces around the world. These are pieces that have “metastasized” from the larger piece located at ASU. We will use these smaller works to educate people about what metastization means which is an important terms to understand in relationship to cancer.
