ACE has a new discussion series about exciting themes in cancer research. It is suitable both for the public and for scientists. It will will take place monthly, on the third Friday of each month at 11 am PST (or noon on occasion).
We are kicking off the series by hosting a conversation between Drs. Carlo Maley and Marc Tollis who will discuss Why whales and elephants rarely get cancer? A genetic detective story. This event will take place on Friday, February 18th, 11 am PST.
Brief description: Big animals have lots of cells so it seems they should get lots of cancer too, but they don’t. It’s a paradox. The resolution comes from a remarkable discovery involving cancer suppression genes. Marc Tollis and Carlo Maley explain how researchers hit on the answer and what it means for humans.
